A Particular Place
‘A Particular Place’ is a public-facing wall mural in Kampong Gelam, a heritage neighborhood in Singapore, where I received a public grant together with two other collaborators, Akai Chew and Leow Wei Li, to create a mural that celebrates the heritage and history of the neighborhood for a local architecture festival (Archifest 2023).
The mural was painted on the façade of a historic shophouse, and during the festival, it was made open to members of the public for community workshops where we worked with participants to paint their personal histories and memories of the neighborhood into the wall mural. The outcome is a collaborative project that celebrates and preserves individual and collective memories of a historically and ethnically significant neighborhood.
