Roadmap to the Future

‘Roadmap to the Future’ is a large collaborative painting between myself and the K-12 students and community at the Glen Oaks Library, Queens. Titled 'Roadmap to the Future', I asked students and community participants to envision what a sustainable and equitable future might look like – what their dreams are for themselves and their community and how might humans live equally in the future.

Among other things, participants painted robots, imagined vehicles, flying buildings, and landscapes filled with gardens, flowers, trees and hills. To pique participants' creativity, I started the painting with a curvilinear composition that contained figurative abstractions blending animalistic and humanoid forms amidst a backdrop of landscape elements and imagined architecture that drew inspiration from past and present day buildings and art deco in the New York City landscape. The final piece was exhibited at Voltz Clarke Gallery as part of our Resident Artist Exhibition.
